The most important spanish sommeliers met on the 11th of November at the I Sommeliers Meeting, arranged by Degusta la Rioja, that comes from Diario La Rioja. More than two hundred of wine experts participated in this event and also the main Rioja wineries. Some of the most awarded sommeliers participated as speakers such as: Juanma Terceño, González Byass sommelier, Javier Gila, the president of Asociación Madrileña de Sumilleres, César Canovas, the responsible of Centro Cultural Monvínic, Juancho Asenjo, sommelier consultant and trainer, Manuel Angosto, Celler de Can Roca sommelier, José Antonio Navarrete, Quique Dacosta Restaurante sommelier, Miguel Ángel Benito, Museo del Vino de Peñafiel sommelier and José Luis Paniagua, head of sommeliers of Atrio Relais & Chateaux.
This meeting also had three spectacular wine tastings to know deeply Rioja wines. There was also a fair where Rioja wineries showed its wines and a lunch provided with the traditional products of La Rioja, those which have this land's origin.
This event ended with an important tribute to Custodio López Zamarra, sommelier and wine expert of the prestigious restaurant Zalacaín from Madrid. López Zamarra is considered the main father of sommeliers in Spain because his work and his books have contributed to know this job.
